Q. What is interior design?

- often involves the modification of the interior structure of the building
- includes completing the designed spaces with furniture, fittings and finishes
Q. What is the difference between interior design and decoratorating?
- decorators generally furnish and adorn a space by applying colour, finishes and furniture pieces to the rooms as they are. This may include selecting floor coverings, paint colours, fabrics, furniture pieces, window coverings, soft furnishings etc.
- interior designers design AND decorate spaces. They apply creative and technical solutions in their designs which respond to and co-ordinate with the building shell. They are trained to consider the purpose, efficiency, comfort, safety and aesthetics of interior spaces to arrive at an optimum design.
